Build strength. Move with confidence. Keep doing what you love.
Individual one-to-one coaching designed around your current fitness, health considerations and goals.
Whether you are starting exercise for the first time, returning after a long break or looking to maintain an active lifestyle, Vitality 50+ helps you develop the physical capabilities that support everyday life.
Carrying shopping. Getting up from a chair. Climbing stairs. Enjoying a long walk or keeping up with your grandchildren.
These activities depend on strength, stamina, balance and confidence. Qualities worth investing in as we get older.
Individual by design
Your starting point shapes your training.
Age alone does not tell us how you should exercise. Your training history, current fitness, health, mobility and recovery all matter.
We adapt exercise selection, loading, range of movement and rest so that training feels purposeful and manageable, not exhausting or intimidating.
The aim is an appropriate challenge, supported by attentive coaching.
Six foundations
Build the capabilities that support independence.
01
Strength and muscle
Muscle strength helps you rise, lift, carry and move with control.
Progressive resistance training is a central part of the programme, helping address the loss of muscle and strength associated with ageing, known as sarcopenia. We develop a foundation suited to your capabilities and build on it over time.
02
Bone health
Appropriately selected resistance and weight-bearing exercise can support bone health.
If you have osteoporosis or a history of fractures, your programme needs particular care. Exercise choices and loading are adapted to your circumstances and relevant clinical advice.
03
Aerobic fitness
Walking further, managing stairs and enjoying active days all require stamina.
We introduce cardiovascular exercise at a suitable starting level and progress it according to your response, helping you build the fitness to participate more comfortably in daily life.
04
Balance and fall prevention
Stepping confidently, changing direction and navigating uneven ground require more than strength alone.
Appropriate balance and coordination exercises help develop steadiness and control. Where suitable, we also practise changes of direction and purposeful stepping to support everyday movement.
05
Mobility and postural control
We work on the movement you need for daily activities, taking account of stiffness, restricted mobility and discomfort.
The focus is on developing usable movement and control, with exercises adjusted to your available range and tolerance.
06
Cognitive wellbeing
Staying physically active supports brain health as well as physical health.
Learning movements, following exercise sequences and practising coordination bring attention and engagement into training. Exercise can contribute to cognitive wellbeing as we age, although it cannot guarantee the prevention of cognitive decline.
Weight & cardiovascular health
Look after your heart. Preserve your strength.
Cardiovascular fitness, body composition and nutrition all have a place in healthy ageing.
If you want to address body fat or improve cardiovascular markers, we can combine strength work with appropriate conditioning and nutrition coaching.
Progress is not about lifting as heavily as possible. It is about building the physical capacity that allows you to live with confidence.
Your goals might include
Getting up from a chair more confidently
Improving strength for carrying and lifting
Building stamina for walking or travel
Developing balance and steadiness
Improving movement for everyday tasks
Establishing a consistent exercise routine
Progress is measured against your starting point and the goals that matter to you.
Personal support
A coach who knows you. A team that supports you.
Your coach gets to know your capabilities, notes your progress and adjusts your sessions as you develop. You train in a calm, private environment with people who understand what you are working towards.
Richard has trained for decades and continues to prioritise strength, mobility and physical capability. Vitality 50+ reflects that commitment: Training that supports a long, active life.
You do not need to share Richard’s fitness ambitions. Your programme is built around yours.
There is no single age at which exercise stops being worthwhile. We consider your health, capabilities and goals when discussing a suitable starting point.
What if I have never trained in a gym?
We introduce exercises step by step. Your trainer explains each movement, guides your technique and helps you become familiar with the equipment.
Can I join if I have joint pain or back pain?
We first discuss your symptoms and any diagnosis or treatment you have received. Depending on your situation, we may need guidance from your doctor or physiotherapist before starting or selecting particular exercises. Training is adapted to your circumstances; we do not ask you to push through pain.
Is strength training appropriate if I have osteoporosis?
It may form part of an appropriate exercise plan, but the exercises and loading must account for your bone health and fracture history. We seek relevant clinical guidance where needed.
Do I need to lose weight to benefit?
No. Strength, aerobic fitness, balance and mobility are valuable goals in their own right. Weight management is included only where appropriate.
How often should I attend?
We discuss a realistic frequency based on your goals, current activity, recovery and availability, then review it as your programme develops.
Your next chapter
Start with where you are. Build towards what matters.
Tell us what you would like to keep doing, what currently feels difficult and any concerns you have about exercise.
We will listen, explain our approach and discuss a suitable next step.
